Amelia Earhart (1897 -1937?) was an American aviator who set many flying records and championed the advancement of women in aviation. She was born in a wealthy familly in Kansas, but due to later poverty and illness she couldn't finish her studies in medicine and further plans for enrolling at the M I T. She started with aviation in the early 1920s, and married the publisher George Putnam in 1931, but didn't have any children. Amelia became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean (in 1932), and later that year made the first solo, nonstop flight across the United States by a woman. She was the first person ever to fly solo from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland (in 1935).
Amelia become a heroine in her lifetime, a friend of Eleanor Roosevelt and other celebrities of the era, admired and an inspiration for all women in the world.
During a flight to circumnavigate the globe, Amelia disappeared somewhere over the Pacific in 1937. Her plane wreckage was never found, and she was officially declared lost at sea. Her disappearance remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the twentieth century. Theories are yet of today presented of what could have happened with Amelia.
